ملتقى القاهرة السينمائي يعقد جلسة لمجموعة مختارة من صناع الأفلام بدوراته السابقة مع صندوق ساندانس للأفلام الوثائقية
عقد ملتقى القاهرة السينمائي، المنصة الاحترافية للإنتاج المشترك التابعة لمهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي، جلسة عبر الإنترنت ضمت عددًا من صناع الأفلام العرب الذي شاركوا في دوراته الأخيرة. واستضاف الملتقى خلال الجلسة، دومينيك ديفيز، مدير صندوق ساندانس للأفلام الوثائقية. وذلك ضمن الرؤية الاستراتيجية الجديدة للملتقى الرامية إلى تحويل أنشطته إلى برنامج مستدام يمتد على مدار العام لدعم السينمائيين العرب، وتوفير وصول مباشر لهم لمنصات الدعم والأسواق العالمية.
وفي كلمته في بداية الجلسة قال دومينيك ديفيز: “يسعدني التواجد اليوم مع ملتقى القاهرة السينمائي؛ نهتم في مؤسسة ساندانس ببناء علاقات مستدامة والاستماع مباشرة إلى صناع الأفلام الوثائقية من جميع أنحاء العالم. ونحرص على التواجد في هذه المنصات للتقرب من المبدعين وفهم التحديات الحقيقية التي تواجههم. تتلخص رسالة معهد ساندانس في دعم الفنانين ومساعدتهم على إيصال أصواتهم إلى الجماهير، ولذلك أشجع جميع السينمائيين المشاركين على إطلاعنا على تطلعاتهم واحتياجاتهم لنرى كيف يمكن لمواردنا وصندوق الدعم المساهمة في دفع رحلاتهم الإبداعية للأمام”.
تفاعل صناع الأفلام المشاركون بطرح أسئلة تخص مشروعاتهم، ومنهم المخرجة المصرية مي زايد التي شاركت في دورة 2018 بمشروع فيلمها “عاش يا كابتن” الذي عُرض عالميًا لأول مرة في مهرجان تورنتو السينمائي الدولي عام 2020، وفاز بجائزتي الهرم البرونزي والجمهور في مهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي في العام ذاته. والمخرجة الأردنية راند بيروتي، التي شاركت في دورة 2020، بمشروع فيلمها “احكوا عنا” الذي انطلق عالميًا في مهرجان كوبنهاجن الدولي للأفلام الوثائقية وحصد جوائز عدة.
كما ضمت الجلسة المخرجة اليمنية مريم الذبحاني صاحبة مشروع “يلا نلعب عسكرة” الذي شارك دورة 2022، والمخرجة المصرية سالي أبو باشا التي شارك مشروعها “هش” بدورة 2022، والمخرج العراقي ميثم رضا الذي شارك بمشروع “40 عامًا من الصمت” في دورة 2024، والمخرجة المصرية أسماء جمال صاحبة مشروع “قبل الآن، لاحقًا” الذي شارك بدورة 2024، والمخرج العراقي حيدر حلو الفائز مشروعه “ألوان زماننا” بخمس جوائز في دورة الملتقى لعام 2025.
ومن جانبه قال محمد سيد عبد الرحيم، مدير الصناعة في مهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي: “تمثل الجلسة خطوة مهمة ضمن رؤيتنا لتطوير ملتقى القاهرة السينمائي ليصبح منصة دعم مستمرة على مدار العام، تمتد خارج نطاق أيام انعقاد المهرجان. نؤمن بأن توفير فرص التواصل المباشر بين صناع الأفلام العرب والمؤسسات الدولية المؤثرة، مثل صندوق ساندانس للأفلام الوثائقية، يساهم في فتح آفاق جديدة أمام المشاريع العربية ويمنحها فرصًا أكبر للوصول إلى شبكات الدعم والتمويل والأسواق العالمية. ونسعى عبر هذه المبادرات إلى تعزيز العلاقة مع المشاركين السابقين في الملتقى، ومواصلة مرافقة مشاريعهم في مختلف مراحلها، لترسيخ دور القاهرة كمنصة محورية لدعم السينما العربية المستقلة وتطويرها”.

ملتقى القاهرة السينمائي منصة احترافية لدعم مشاريع الأفلام الروائية والوثائقية الطويلة من العالم العربي في مرحلتي التطوير وما بعد الإنتاج. عقد الملتقى 11 دورة منذ انطلاقه عام 2010. وقدم جوائز مالية وعينية تجاوزت قيمتها 1.6 مليون دولار. واختار على مدار تاريخه 166 مشروعًا من 15 دولة عربية، نجح 50 مشروعًا منها في الوصول إلى العرض العالمي الأول في مهرجانات دولية كبرى. دعم الملتقى خلال مسيرته 62 مشروعًا وثائقيًا، من بينها أفلام “بنات ألفة” لكوثر بن هنية، و”الحياة بعد سهام” لنمير عبد المسيح، و”سودان يا غالي” لهند مدب، و”باي باي طبريا” للينا سويلم، و”متل قصص الحب” لميريام الحاج.

تأسس مهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي عام 1976، ويُعقد سنويًا تحت رعاية وزارة الثقافة المصرية، وهو من أقدم الفعاليات السينمائية في العالم العربي وأفريقيا. وينفرد بكونه المهرجان الوحيد في المنطقة المسجل ضمن الفئة الأولى (A) في الاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات منتجي الأفلام (FIAPF). ويمثل المهرجان منصة رئيسية لدعم وتقييم صناعة السينما دوليًا، ويوفر مساحة لتلاقي الثقافات وتبادل الخبرات السينمائية.

*Cairo Film Connection Hosts Session for Selected Alumni Filmmakers with Sundance Documentary Fund*
Cairo Film Connection, the professional co-production platform of Cairo International Film Festival, held an online session featuring several Arab filmmakers who participated in its recent editions. During the session, the Connection hosted Dominic Davis, Director of the Sundance Documentary Fund. This aligns with the new strategic vision of the Connection, aiming to transform its activities into a sustainable, year-round program to support Arab filmmakers and provide them with direct access to support platforms and global markets.
In his opening remarks, Dominic Davis said: “I am delighted to be here today with Cairo Film Connection; at the Sundance Institute, we are interested in building sustainable relationships and listening directly to documentary filmmakers from all over the world. We are keen to be present in these platforms to get closer to creators and understand the real challenges they face. The mission of the Sundance Institute is to support artists and help them amplify their voices to audiences. Therefore, I encourage all participating filmmakers to share their aspirations and needs so we can see how our resources and support fund can contribute to advancing their creative journeys.”
Participating filmmakers engaged by asking questions about their projects. Among them was Egyptian director Mayye Zayed, who participated in the 2018 edition with her film project “Lift Like a Girl,” which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2020 and won the Bronze Pyramid and Audience Awards at Cairo International Film Festival in the same year. Jordanian director Rand Beiruty, from the 2020 edition, participated with her film project “Tell Them About Us,” which premiered globally at the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival (CPH:DOX) and won several awards.
The session also included Yemeni director Mariam Al-Dhubhani with her project “Let’s Play Soldiers” (2022 edition), Egyptian director Sally Abo Basha with her project “Hush” (2022 edition), Iraqi director Maytham Ridha with his project “40 Years of Silence” (2024 edition), Egyptian director Asmaa Gamal with her project “Before Now, Later” (2024 edition), and Iraqi director Haider Al-Helou, whose project “Colors of Our Time” won five awards at the 2025 Connection edition.
Mohamed Sayed Abdel Rahim, Director of Industry at Cairo International Film Festival, stated: “This session represents an important step within our vision to develop Cairo Film Connection into a continuous support platform throughout the year, extending beyond the festival days. We believe that providing direct networking opportunities between Arab filmmakers and influential international institutions, such as the Sundance Documentary Fund, opens new horizons for Arab projects and grants them greater opportunities to reach global support networks, funding, and markets. Through these initiatives, we seek to strengthen the relationship with former Connection participants and continue accompanying their projects through various stages, consolidating Cairo’s role as a pivotal platform for supporting and developing independent Arab cinema.”

The Connection has held 11 editions since its launch in 2010. It has awarded cash and in-kind prizes exceeding $1.6 million in value. Throughout its history, it has selected 166 projects from 15 Arab countries, 50 of which successfully reached their world premieres at major international festivals.
